Demand for London office space increased by 6% in the first three months of the year, with the largest shortfall in over 30 years expected to cause a large increase in rents in the next two years.

The most marked increase since 1980 is being felt in the city due to a lack of new developments and rising demand. This has lead to rents in certain areas increasingly dramatically.

Rents in the City of London are up 17.5% and rents in the West End are up 19% since the first quarter of 2010. Rents are expected to reach £100 per sq ft in some areas by 2013 and landlords are expected to reduce lease incentives, so occupiers need to consider their options carefully.
